Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education - Literacy (Tenured/Tenure-Track)

Job Position Description

The Teachers and Bilingual Education Department (TBED) in the College of Education and Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) invites applications for a 9-month faculty position of Assistant/ Associate Professor of Teacher Education - Literacy (Tenured/Tenure-Track) to begin August 2025 or Spring 2026. The Core-Subjects EC-6 Program faculty are dedicated to preparing future educators, researchers, and leaders in the fields of literacy using both evidence-based and innovative practices to meet the needs of diverse learners. The Core-Subjects EC-6 program in TBED offers a Bachelor of Science degree with licensure options in K-12 on our two campuses (Kingsville and Weslaco).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Coordinate the undergraduate Core-Subjects EC-6 program;

• Recruit students for the programs;

• Teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate Reading and Education courses;

• Serve on university, college, and department committees;

• Maintain a record of scholarly productivity commensurate with faculty position, related to literacy;

• Advise undergraduate and graduate students in their area of expertise (advisement);

• Contribute to course and program development;

• Continue professional development and stay at the cutting edge of research in Literacy and Education.

Required qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Literacy from an accredited institution (ABD applicants considered);

• Current teaching certification (EC-6, middle school, or secondary school) in the U.S.;

• Minimum three years of successful teaching of students in the content area of reading in public PK-12 settings in the U.S.
