Job Description:The University of Florida College of Medicine invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Pre-Clinical Medical Education, a key leadership role reporting to the Associate Dean for Medical Education. This position is open to current UF College of Medicine faculty.
The Assistant Dean will provide strategic oversight of Phase 1 (pre-clinical) curriculum, working closely with course directors, faculty, and education leadership to ensure high-quality, integrated medical education. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement aligned with accreditation standards and national best practices.
About This Role
- Lead Phase 1 curriculum design, implementation, and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain comprehensive curriculum mapping and promote horizontal/vertical integration.
- Collaborate with course directors, medical education leaders, and key offices to support curriculum and assessment quality.
- Lead monthly course director meetings and annual retreats.
- Oversee orientation, development, and performance reviews of Phase 1 course directors.
- Monitor student performance and coordinate academic support with Student Affairs.
- Direct the Phase 1 Capstone course and Clinical Re-entry elective.
- Ensure assessment of reliability and validity in partnership with relevant academic leaders.
- Support medical education scholarship aligned with strategic priorities.
- Coordinate Phase 1 scheduling and ensure compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
- Stay current on national trends in medical education and disseminate updates.
- Represent course directors on key education committees.
- Participate in milestone events and contribute to a culture of innovation and collaboration.
This is a 0.30 FTE administrative appointment.

Required Qualifications:Candidates must be at Assistant Professor, Associate, or Professor rank appointed in the UF College of Medicine, have a M.D., D.O., or relevant terminal degree, and have five years' experience in medical education leadership.
Preferred- MD/DO degree
- Minimum 5 years medical education leadership experience
- Demonstrated curriculum design and integration expertise
- Strong skills in educational assessment and student performance evaluation
- Experience as a course director
- Leadership training (course or certificate)
- Documented educational scholarship record
- Experience with competency-based medical education frameworks
