Job Description

The Cloud Foundations team is a small, agile team working to make cloud use at Block more accessible, easier and safer. Block is at an exciting inflection point, where Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) are becoming increasingly advantageous to product engineers versus our datacenters. We're actively talking to other product focused teams, understanding what they want and building tooling that makes it possible for them to do what they want without us getting in the way. Some projects we’ve worked on recently include unifying cloud and datacenter observability, feature enhancements to our Terraform CI/CD pipelines, and enabling service mesh connectivity from AWS Lambda.

As the Architect on Cloud Foundations, you will directly contribute to designing and building the infrastructure that enables every team at Block to use the best AWS and GCP have to offer. Your impact will span across product and infrastructure engineering teams at Block, and you will help set the direction for Block's cloud use for many years to come. Along the way you will have plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with engineers from across the company working on vastly different problems and be in a position to help them all succeed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

You have:

• Familiarity with GCP 
• Familiarity with one infrastructure as code tool, like Terraform or Cloud Formation
• Familiarity with any of the following programming languages: Ruby, Go, Python or Java

You will:

• Shape how Block uses GCP by architecting our future platform
• Collaborate with security teams to improve the security posture of Block's cloud presence
• Be able to tell the world about your work through blogging, presenting and open sourcing it
• Participate in a team on-call rotation (quite painless - we work hard to make sure this is a breeze)
• Dive deep to solve problems in novel ways based on our team principle of “get out of the way” and enterprise security requirements.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a commission plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
