Job Description

Product Engineer (Software/Java) implements applications following 12-factor principles to build out the product and iterative enhancements. They partner on full stack of software products; developing and implementing frontends (web or mobile), and backend services. In this role, you’ll develop applications supporting Allstate's Insurance products, focusing on user experience. Using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Continuous Integration (CI), you'll ensure product quality and agility. Collaborate with teams to design seamless, responsive interfaces, enhancing customer journeys across Allstate's insurance platforms. The internal title for this role will be Software Engineer Consultant II.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in retrospectives to gather feedback and derive actionable items to improve the team and the product

  • Participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups

  • Participates in iteration planning meetings ensuring that the team has a common understanding of each story and chores in a team’s backlog

  • Provides support for software products in user environments

  • Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices

  • Practices daily paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products

  • Collaborates within the team in designing systems and apps

  • Participates in knowledge sharing, and contributes to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the team

Functional Skills:

  • Strong understanding of computer science concepts, object-oriented design principles

  • 2 years of hands-on software development experience preferred with Java and J2EE technologies such as Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring IOC, Spring Annotations, Spring AOP, Spring Transactions and Spring Security

  • Strong on REST API’s including tooling for documentation (Swagger), versioning, service discoverer/registration and testing and familiarity with microservice architecture is required.

  • Solid knowledge of database design, indexes design, complex queries, and implementation on any Relational database SQL.

  • Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit for unit testing

  • Utilize continuous integration and DevOps methodologies, preferred tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Groovy, SonarQube, Gradle, Maven, etc.

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using containerized environments.

  • Contribute to the code base and ensure code and processes adhere to clean code practices and industry/application best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum or Extreme Programming (XP) work environment.

Desired skills:

  • Any front-end technologies like JavaScript, React, and/or Angular.

  • Utilize quality and security scan tools such as Sonar, Fortify and Contrast, or similar.

  • Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or similar tools

  • Practical cloud knowledge with technologies such as PCF, AWS, or other cloud technologies and application programming monitoring tools.

Education

• 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)

Experience

• 2 or more years of experience (Preferred)

• In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is $66,800.00 - 120,650.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
