Responsibilities

Peraton is searching for a talented Cobol Software Development Analyst to become part of Peraton’s Citizens Security & Public Services, State and Local Regional team. This position will be remote.

 

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain COBOL applications with expertise in IMS DB/DC and JCL for IBM mainframe operating systems.
  • Provide Application Support Services to a customer's legacy environment and contribute to modernization efforts.
  • Analyze, develop, and test COBOL applications, ensuring seamless migration across technical environments.
  • Document technical solutions tailored to mainframe systems.
  • Support quality control testing activities to maintain application integrity.
  • Generate technical designs specific to mainframe environments.
  • Address and resolve reported issues within source code promptly.
  • Provide accurate estimates and timelines for assigned tasks.
  • Prepare comprehensive status reports and project updates to keep stakeholders informed.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree with 8+ years of experience or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience or a HS Diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in COBOL, IMS DB/DC, TSO, ISPF, and MS Office.
  • Proven track record of success in:
    • Developing and maintaining COBOL applications on the mainframe.
    • Designing, implementing, and managing JCL processes.
    • Handling IMS development and maintenance tasks.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mainframe environments and associated technologies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing TSO and ISPF for mainframe development.
  • Strong skills in MS Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Management Information Systems, encompassing in-depth knowledge and adeptness in analysis, design, application development, database management, procedural frameworks, report generation, and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with operating systems, telecommunications, networking, client-server architectures, security protocols, and privacy standards. Proficiency in IBM IMS hierarchical databases and DB2 relational databases would be advantageous.
  • Additional skills in Azure DevOps, Agile methodologies, and application development, including expertise in WebFocus, Adobe Live Cycle, and other Internet technologies, are highly desirable.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
