About the role

Hourly Range: $25.41 - $31.76 + Commissions  Exact compensation may vary based on skill, experience and location.          POSITION PURPOSE   SAFE Home Loan Consultants are expected to be a source of home lending expertise and advice for branch staff, SAFE members, and the communities SAFE serves. The Home Loan Consultant acts as a trusted partner for members going through the process of purchasing a home, refinancing an existing home, or drawing against their home’s equity.  Home Loan Consultants will be available to meet with members to walk through program and pricing options, the members’ Realtor, and other real estate transaction partners, qualifying and documentation requirements, and expected timelines. Additionally, the Home Loan Consultant is a member’s primary point of contact throughout any SAFE home loan process, from application to funding.   Home Loan Consultants are considered subject matter experts, located in-office daily, throughout the SAFE branch network.  They are required to regularly provide home loan training to branch staff and act as a partner within their assigned branches.        ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES   
  • Regularly train and educate branch staff and leaders on SAFE home loan products and services.
  • Act as SAFE Home Lending expert and ambassador in branches and the communities they serve.
  • After equipping them with knowledge and confidence, encourage branch employees to talk about home loan products with members to identify opportunities for SAFE to help members build financial freedom through home ownership and equity.
  • Maintain general awareness of market conditions impacting home lending and be able to explain those dynamics to SAFE members and employees.
  • Use home lending expertise to effectively consult with existing and prospective members on SAFE’s home loan products.  Conduct meaningful conversations to understand each member’s needs and qualifications, recommend and discuss appropriate home loan products and services with applicants or potential applicants.
  • Responsible for accurate, regulatory compliant, timely, and complete mortgage and home equity applications, including required supporting documentation for disclosures, processing, underwriting, doc drawing, and funding.
  • Effectively manage pipeline of mortgage and home equity leads and applications to ensure that members are being served to their expectations and each application is being handled timely and effectively. This includes assisting with member required documentation (initial and subsequent) when needed and regular communication with members about their application progress and status.
  • Meet minimum production and service goals, as assigned.
  • Represent SAFE at member functions as a home loan expert and resource (in branches or in partnership with SAFE’s Community Relations team throughout the branch footprint).
  • Show proficiency in presenting home loan information to SAFE employees and members, using a variety of mediums.
  • Fill in as needed to cover gaps in service of home loan expertise throughout the SAFE branch network. Work cooperatively and in support of the Home Loan Consultant team to ensure excellent service to branches and members.
  • Complete other duties, as assigned.
   QUALIFICATIONS      Education/Certification:    Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and three to four years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.   Certification:    
  • NMLS license.
   Required Knowledge:              Three or more years of experience in mortgage sales. Knowledge of FNMA, HUD, USDA, VA, and FHLMC guidelines. Experience with Encompass preferred.       Experience Required:   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
