As a Communications Officer, you will process incoming and outgoing communications in the Security Operations Center. In addition, you will monitor cameras, alarms and other surveillance equipment to provide vital information to dispatched responders. Communications Officers work two days on/two days off with a three-day weekend every other weekend. In addition to a competitive hourly rate, night shift workers are eligible for a shift differential of $1.75 an hour.   

A caregiver in this position works 12-hour shifts, nights from 6:00pm to 6:00am, with every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. If worked on the weekend, caregivers are then off on Monday and Tuesday. On the opposite week they are off Wednesday and Thursday.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Process incoming and outgoing communications in the Security Operations Center.  
  • Monitor cameras, alarms and other surveillance equipment to provide vital information to dispatched responders. 
  • Receive, record, assess urgency and respond to all security/police phone calls and emergency calls. 
  • Monitor and respond to all incoming alarm signals across multiple platforms. 
  • Receive and transmit all security/police multi-based radio, air transport and satellite communications. 
  • Process requests for classified data of caregivers, patients, and the public. 
  • Process code and medical emergency activations received from clinical caregivers and overhead page information. 
  • Monitor, analyze and react to real-time alerts via social media and caregiver travel platforms. 
  • Draft and disseminate electronic notifications to internal stakeholders. 
  • Disseminate mass notification alerts to necessary caregivers during crisis situations. 
  • Perform clerical functions in the Security Operations Center. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • High School Diploma/GED and two years of experience in a high-volume communications center, PBX operator or public or private law enforcement/security agency OR Associate’s Degree, Public Safety Dispatching Certificate or equivalent formal training in Criminal Justice, Computer Science or a related field and one year of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related field 
  • Demonstrated customer service experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work requires extensive sitting and dexterity to perform work on a PC.
  • Requires the ability to walk to other parts of the police facility and the greater Cleveland Clinic campus.
  • Normal or corrected vision and frequent twisting and turning to perform functions. Should be able to lift 40lbs to move, lift and shelve various supplies and equipment.
