We are hiring an experienced Senior/Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Applications and Services team to help expand our best-in-class user-experience. The ideal candidate has significant experience in JavaScript-based front-end technologies like React or Angular, some experience with backend service development, and is comfortable working in a professional environment. This position will be responsible for delivering high-quality features and software in conjunction with the rest of the team.

While the locations listed in the job posting are ideal, we would love candidates near either our Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA offices. We may also consider remote candidates in certain states. 

Responsibilities:

• Ensure high-quality and production ready React and JavaScript solutions.
• Develop backend functionality for existing Java services.
• Work with User Experience designers and engineering management to help scope and plan feature development efforts.
• Identify gaps missing in software designs and technical requirements.
• Pro-actively participate and facilitate the entire software development life cycle, including design, code review and release cycles.
• Support business operations on a day-to-day basis.
• Be available to collaborate with team members during core hours.
• Participate in team ceremonies.
• Mentor other engineers when appropriate.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 6 years of experience as a software engineer, specifically with JavaScript.
• Experience with React or a similar framework.
• Experience developing backend services (Java, Python, Ruby on Rails, etc.)
• Ability to understand and manipulate the browser DOM.
• Experience using source control systems, preferably Git.
• Experience participating in a team-oriented code-review and design process.
• Experience creating and consuming APIs from a single-page application.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to fellow team members (both technical and non-technical).
• Ability to mentor more junior developers.
• Experience with test-driven development, including both unit and end-to-end tests.
• Experience working with State Containers, like Redux.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building multiple applications with shared, internally developed libraries.
• Experience developing services and REST endpoints using a Java framework (Jersey, Spring Boot, etc.)
• Familiarity with Issue and Project Tracking Software.
• Experience and knowledge of Geospatial Intelligence and Map-based applications.
• Experience working with geospatial data and maps.
• Proficiency and experience with Amazon Web Services.
• Experience working in a remote-first environment.
• Familiarity with satellites and related technologies.
