About the role

Job Overview

We are hiring a Western Regional VP of Sales to our winning team! 
 
The primary purpose of this position is to generate sales for Hubbell Gas (HGUS), a division of Hubbell Utility Solutions (HUS) products to both established and new distribution channels and end users in the Utility Gas and Commercial Industrial markets. HGUS’s strategy requires that the salesperson work with their customers / prospects closely to understand both sides of the business. Seeking candidates located in major metropolitan areas of the Western US.
 

A Day In The Life

  • Focus on your monthly goal and exceed it.
  • Manage a commercial sales organization in the Western US by setting quotas, creating a strategic growth strategy and executing a tactical plan to meet and exceed the organizational goals.
  • Plan your work – work your plan.  Allocate your time and efforts to the areas within your territory that will contribute the most to exceeding your goals.
  • Review list of targeted distributors to ensure that communication, evaluation and progress is being made with each one.
  • Meet quarterly with your distributors.  Update them on their purchases vs. prior year and plan.  Communicate activities in the market and new product/ programs introduced by HGUS.
  • Travel within the territory with your sales team to coach, manage employees and service our customers.
  • Maintain the condition of our inventory and understand the distributors’ business and procedures to build a relationship that is based on mutual trust.
  • Maintain an active “book” on the competition within your region.  Understand the facts, features and benefits of their product.  Understand how they go to market and their pricing strategies and trends.
  • On an as needed basis, be involved in credit issues.
  • Recognize your own and the teams’ weakness and work to improve or minimize their impact.  The company commits to being very supportive of its sales team; however, the ultimate responsibility to grow and improve is yours.
  • Recognize your strengths and work to maximize your contribution.  Stay on the radar screen and communicate your value.

 

Weekly / Daily Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Establish weekly goals.  Communicate those goals to your manager and exceed your goals.
  • Communicate with your Manager a minimum of once a day.  Check your voice mail on a regular basis. 
  • Be responsive.  Many requests will come your way.  Your time is yours and is to be guarded, but in all cases communicate what you will and will not be able to do.
  • Work/Communicate with inside sales regarding follow up, pricing and promotional programs.
  • Be accessible to your customers and employees.  Take their calls.  Minimize their need to go to voicemail.  Respond to their requests quickly and professionally.  Push the company to respond as needed.
  • Increase sales at a rate that is equal to or greater than company performance and plans.
  • Become technically proficient in all aspects of your job.  This includes an understanding of the performance of our line, gas installation procedures & techniques as well as codes & standard requirements.
  • Work with the Management and sales team to formulate annual region plan & goals.  This includes identifying key opportunities in the Utility Gas markets.  Have an understanding of the 80/20 rule in your territory and control the allocation of your time accordingly. 
  • Work with the team to prepare and execute a targeted number of distributors  and end users in your territory.
  • Understand territory dynamics and have a proactive approach to new sales dollars.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relative field experience of 5+ years managing a sales team in a large multi-state territory
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Strong interpersonal skills, seasoned judgment
