Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites candidates to apply for a term faculty teaching position at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank. Responsibilities primarily include teaching online graduate courses in the Master of Digital Health (MDH) Program, although course assignments may evolve over time. The MDH program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to navigate the dynamic landscape of digital health. This unique integration of health sciences and digital innovation positions the Department of Kinesiology at the forefront of education that bridges the gap between technology and human well-being. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in digital health (or a closely related field) to collaborate with the world-renowned faculty in the Kinesiology Department to educate graduate students on the latest digital health industry trends and advance the field to increase efficiency, affordability, and accessibility in healthcare and health systems.

The program's curriculum has been precisely crafted to encompass a comprehensive range of digital health topics, including data analytics, personalized medicine, telemedicine, wearable technologies, and behavioral interventions. The curriculum not only addresses the latest industry trends but also emphasizes the ethical, regulatory, and policy dimensions of digital health - a critical component in today's rapidly evolving population health and healthcare landscape. Teaching responsibilities will be in one or more of these areas.

The candidate will play a key role as a part of a collaborative project with other faculty to design the MDH curriculum, bring teaching innovation and new ideas to these courses. The position also involves service work within the department, especially with regards to MDH affairs, as well as other parts of the life of the department, college, and university.

The successful candidate will have excellent teaching, teamwork, and communications skills and provide a pedagogically effective and welcoming learning experience for students with various backgrounds. This is a 12-month position with an initial one-year term. This position has the possibility of renewal contingent upon budget, department staffing needs, and following a successful departmental review.

Objectives of the Master of Digital Health Program:

  • Incorporate digital technologies such as mobile applications, sensors, wearables, and telehealth into the delivery of health interventions (e.g. exercise, injury prevention, physical therapy and rehabilitation, cardiovascular health, sleep improvement, chronic disease management, smoking cessation).

  • Analyze individual and population level data to develop efficient solutions for target populations.

  • Integrate innovative technologies to target multiple layers of influence including patients, providers, programs, environments, and policies as to empower patients in the self-management of their physical activity and health and the health of their families.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or terminal degree in Kinesiology or closely related area. ABD candidates considered; degree must be conferred by appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

College teaching or applied experience in the field of Digital Health

Ability to teach one or more of the following courses:
