Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Fleet Manager will be an excellent communicator and team player who will ensure all drivers are properly dispatched while communicating any safety related issues or concerns, company updates/changes, and day to day activities with the drivers.
REPORTS TO: Director of Logistics
SUPERVISES: Dispatcher(s) and Drivers
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule drivers to make freight deliveries.
- Search and assign back hauls for drivers.
- Resolve disputes.
- Review drivers’ logs.
- Communicate with customers about freight details, delivery, or pickup times.
- Coordinate repairs with the shop supervisor.
- Keep track of transportation regulations and laws to ensure that truck drivers comply.
- Input information into dispatch software.
- Log customer shipping schedules and complaints.
- Provide feedback to drivers on performance.
- Maintain DOT compliant paperwork for all loads scheduled.
- Regular and timely attendance are an expectation of the position.
- Follow the 5S foundations for deploying lean production tools and processes.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to make independent judgement for back hauls and driver schedule management.
- Previous dispatch experience in a full truck load environment preferred.
- Experience and knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
- Experience/Ability to quickly learn software that will include DAT, Dr. Dispatch, PC Miler, and Microsoft Office products.
- Analytical thinking.
- Ability to multi-task, manage time, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in logistic or transportation industry preferred.
