Founded in 1880, Larchmont Yacht Club (LYC) is one of the most distinguished private yacht clubs in the United States. Nestled on a scenic 15-acre waterfront campus just 16 miles from New York City, LYC is a year-round haven for sailing, tennis, paddle, swimming, and diving. One of our signature summer attractions is our beautifully maintained swimming pool, a cherished destination for member families and a hub for recreation, swim instruction, and special events.

 

Position Summary

 

The Pool Maintenance & Operator is a vital part of the Facilities & Grounds Department and is responsible for ensuring the pool and surrounding areas are safe, clean, and fully operational. This role performs daily maintenance, monitors water quality, and oversees all mechanical systems associated with pool operations. The ideal candidate will be Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certified, have a strong working knowledge of pool systems, and comply with all Federal, State, and Westchester County health and safety codes governing recreational water facilities.

This seasonal position runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with some preparation and closing work occurring in early May and late September.

 

Core Competencies and Expectations

 

  • Extensive knowledge of pool operations, circulation systems, filtration, sanitation, and chemical handling
  • Working understanding of New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Subpart 6-1 requirements
  • Familiarity with Westchester County Department of Health pool guidelines and inspection protocols
  • Skilled in basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and attention to safety
  • Reliable, punctual, and proactive team player
  • Must follow and enforce safety policies at all times

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor and maintain proper water chemistry (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid) and perform corrective treatments
  • Test and record chemical levels in compliance with NYSDOH standards (minimum 3x/day)
  • Maintain filtration and circulation systems, including pumps, valves, filters, gauges, and controllers
  • Backwash filters, inspect valves, and ensure all systems are in optimal working condition
  • Clean pool decks, drains, skimmers, tiles, and surrounding areas daily
  • Operate and maintain vacuum and cleaning equipment
  • Store and transport hazardous pool chemicals per OSHA safety protocols
  • Ensure pool accessories (handrails, ladders, diving boards) are secure and operational
  • Log all chemical tests, maintenance activities, and equipment repairs in a standardized daily log
  • Assist with seasonal opening and closing procedures of the pool
  • Promptly report equipment malfunctions or water quality concerns to the Facilities & Grounds Director
  • Maintain communication wit
