Why we need a VP of Communications

The VP of Communications (VP of Comms) will join the team at an exciting time as we continue to expand the WorkMoney brand and proposition. To date, we’ve been opportunistic in our communications strategy. Going into our third year of operation, WorkMoney is well positioned to take what we’ve learned, tell our story, and create a long term communications and PR strategy to proactively set the organization up for more impact.

What the VP of Communications will do

The VP of Comms will serve as the primary communications strategist and publicist to advance WorkMoney’s mission and purpose, responsible for the development of a comprehensive communications strategy. In the first 12 months on the job in this newly-created role, the VP of Comms, will focus their efforts on identifying opportunities to bring WorkMoney’s story to life, and developing a parallel PR strategy that elevates and protects the brand. Your responsibilities will include:

Strategy development

  • Architect and execute our external communications strategy, aligning our goals with marketing, business and advocacy objectives to achieve growth, awareness and impact metrics.
  • Monitor emerging communications technologies (in partnership with Marketing colleagues) and recommend strategies to adopt or adapt to them; embrace aggressively the use of new media.
  • Implement best practices and elevate the use and application of digital and social media on behalf of external comms/PR strategies.
  • Own, develop, and iterate WorkMoney’s messaging roadmap.

Implementation and proactive audience engagement

  • Promote widespread recognition of WorkMoney’s impact to its members.
  • Build fruitful relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Execute proactive communication initiatives that are designed to advance and elevate WorkMoney’s standing and presence among key audiences and media verticals.
  • Lead and coordinate publicity and media relations efforts, including rapid response to emerging issues and crises.

Monitoring and measurement

  • Strategically manage WorkMoney’s reputation on a national scale to maximize impact, ensuring public perceptions are accurate, consistent, and positive.
  • Create and implement an ongoing reputational analysis program and establish the means for measuring the overall impact of communications initiatives.

Team leadership and collaboration

  • Lead this function to best serve the needs of WorkMoney’s mission and its executive leadership.
  • Coordinate and develop relationships across the organization.
  • Routinely research, analyze, and provide counsel to the executive team, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as the WorkMoney principal spokesperson in partnership with the CEO and Executive team members.
  • Identify and execute other strategic projects as needed.

This is a senior level role in the organization that will eventually lead a team. We’re looking for someone ready to roll up their sleeves, who has most of the qualifications listed below.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience planning and executing communications strategies that encompass PR, advocacy, media relations, issues management, and internal and executiv
