About the role

St. Luke’s School, a secular, college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks an Honors Biology teacher to cover 3 Upper School classes. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach 3 Upper School Honors Biology classes (about 10-14 9th graders per class). Units of study may include Genetics, Evolution, Cell Division, and/or Biotechnology.
  • Maintain an open online gradebook, attend faculty meetings, administer assessments, and coordinate and supervise labs.
  • Write a 100-word report card comment for each student.
  • Serve as co-advisor for a group of 6-8 students.
  • Assist with supervisory and other duties as assigned, such as lunchroom or study hall.

  • Inspiring, positive, flexible, collaborative teacher - equally with fellow teachers as with students
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interest in working with adolescents

Salary: 

$1,000 per week

Dates: 

February 26 - March 1 are planned as shadow days to observe the current teacher and do onboarding activities. No coverage is needed March 4-22. Classroom coverage is expected to begin after St. Luke’s spring break when classes resume on March 25. The school year ends on June 6.  

Schedule: 

Each Upper School class meets 3x week, and each class meeting is 1 hour long. St. Luke’s has a rotating two-week schedule so the schedule is different each day within the two-week period. Normal work hours during a leave replacement are Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm.
