Bookmobile Driver/Operator

The Enoch Pratt Library has an immediate opening for a Bookmobile Driver/Operator.  The Bookmobile Operator's duties include driving a Mobile Library Center vehicle daily to multiple scheduled sites, and day-to-day assistance in managing the Mobile Library Services vehicles. 

This position reports to the Manager of Mobile Services. This position will work on-site and have a flexible work schedule including evenings and Saturdays, and may require work at other branches and locations.

Salary: $45,132 to $54,438

Summary of Duties 

The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the department.

The Bookmobile Operator:

• Drives the Mobile Library Center vehicle safely and promptly to scheduled daily stops.

• Attends general staff meetings as availability provides.

• Assists and advises Library customers on the use of the Mobile Library Service materials.

• Performs as an integral part of a team, with other related duties as assigned in order to meet the needs of the department and Library system.

• Responsible for overall vehicle appearance and vehicle maintenance schedule.

• Provide additional Outreach Service, such as delivery visits, and other emergent solutions to reach audiences in the community.

• Work with a diverse customer base.

• Work in concert with the other Mobile Library Center staff members, Library administrative staff

• The Bookmobile Operator will maintain confidentiality for customer requests and concerns.

​Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.

• Possess a valid Class C driver's license.

• Two (2) years of successful related driving experience.

• 1 year of customer service experience.

• Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with online databases and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

• Experience using recent and specialized Internet software.

• Experience working in a library setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience providing excellent customer service to a broad range of customers in an urban environment.

• Commitment to and understanding of effective community library service in an urban environment.  

• Work in concert with the other Mobile Library Center staff members, Library administrative staff, and the Chief of SLRC.

• The Bookmobile Operator will be expected to maintain an atmosphere of confidentiality as required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with automated systems, online databases and Microsoft software suite is preferred.
