About the role


The Senior Director, Executive Communications will play a key role in the Executive Communications team’s development and execution of the communications program for TIAA's CEO and support communication activities for other Executive Committee leaders. The Senior Director, Executive Communications is part of a team of skilled executive and corporate communications specialists who provide strategic communication counsel, key messages, talking points and background briefings for internal and external CEO appearances and meetings, including mission-critical client and industry engagements and employee-facing events. They will also provide input on social media strategy and routinely coordinate with other Corporate Communications functions and partners across TIAA’s lines of business to ensure all messaging aligns with TIAA business priorities. This role will also serve as the team’s primary point of accountability for AI tool adoption, serving as an internal resource who evaluates, governs, and guides the responsible and effective use of AI across the team.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create and edit talking points, background briefings, scripts and key messaging as needed for CEO and Executive Committee member engagements and appearances.

  • Create internal and external correspondence on behalf of the CEO.

  • Staff CEO and Executive Committee members at internal and external appearances, including evenings, weekends and overnight travel.

  • Ensure all aspects of CEO and Executive Committee member communications are strategically aligned with the firm’s goals.

  • Play key role in CEO social media strategy and campaign content review.

  • Understand the message that needs to be delivered, the audiences and stakeholders for whom the message is intended and the channel(s) that will be employed to deliver the message.

  • Provide strategic communications counsel and recommendations.

  • Evaluate and vet internal and proprietary AI tools and agents for suitability, risk, and fit within the team's workflows, ensuring alignment with TIAA's responsible AI policies and standards.

  • Serve as the team’s central coordinator for AI tool usage, establishing guidelines, managing adoption, and acting as the primary point of contact for AI-related questions, decisions, and escalations across the team.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of executive level communication experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of executive level communication experience
  • Financial services experience preferred
  • Investor relations experience helpful
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, adopting, and governing AI tools and platforms in a professional communications or corporate environment
  • Organized, high-energy individual capable of working in a fast-paced and fluid environment
  • Experience in handling crisis communication, demonstrating sound judgment and a proactive approach
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with enterprise AI governance frameworks, responsible AI principles, and best practices for AI use in a regulated industry

Base Pay Range: $142,000/yr - $190,000/yr

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
