About the role

There are thousands of children who rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year, and when school ends many would go hungry without help. Feed The Kids is a 10-week summer meals program for children living in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods. About 1,500 meals are distributed Monday-Friday, June-August, to 21 different neighborhoods, parks, and street corners on Milwaukee’s north and south side. The meal consists of a sandwich, fruit, snack, and juice or water. The Salvation Army has provided more than 2 million meals through the Feed The Kids program since 1990. This is a seasonal position.  Employment dates are from June 22, 2026 through August 21, 2026; Monday through Friday; 9:15 am – 2:30 pm. (Times may be adjusted due to work volume.)

 

The Feed the Kids Route Staff will assist the Team Leader/Driver in the distribution of meals to established sites and to participate in the mission and ministry outreach during route stops.

 

About the role:

  • Under the supervision of the Team Leader/Driver, assist in the development and implementation of mission minded service.

  • Assist with the loading of meals and supplies into the van.
  • Assist Team Leader/Driver Monday – Friday to distribute meals to established distribution sites.
  • Be responsible for properly distributing meals at congregate meal sites, respectfully greeting clients, and participating in mission/ministry opportunities. Ensuring that children age 18 and under consume the meal at the location and do not take food with them.
  • Assist with unloading and cleaning of meal containers and supplies upon return to the distribution center.
  • Assist in cleaning the van at the end of each day.
  • Assist with meal assembly and food preparation area cleaning, when necessary.
  • Work together with all staff and volunteers associated with the Feed the Kids program.
  • Act in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army Mission Statement, to ensure effective delivery of meals and fulfilling the mission of the program.
  • To report any incidents that may occur on the route.

Education and Experience/Skills and Requirements:

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal skills
  • Good public relations skills
  • Ability to lift at least fifty pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Act in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army Mission Statement to ensure effective delivery of services

Compensation: $14-$18/hour, based on experi
