About the role

Position Summary

Provide premium software support and services to Ensono mainframe clients as they relate to Mainframe DB2 systems.

*The successful candidate will be required to go to the office 5 days a week located in Raleigh NC*

 

Position reports to Manager - Mainframe Database

 

Key Areas of Focus for this Role

  • Fulfill customer service requests for mainframe z/OS customers in a timely manner as they pertain to DB2 and related OEM software products.
  • Identify, diagnose and deliver solutions to DB2 SQL performance.
  • Maintain operational excellence and production stability thru continuous improvements to both online and batch environments
  • Plan for changes in the size of databases that result from business growth and project implementation.
  • Maintain the databases to meet the Service Levels and other performance standards, to maximize efficiency, and to minimize outages.
  • Maintain, update, and implement database archive processes and procedures to recover from an outage or corruption.
  • Provide physical database management support, including providing backups and restores of data.
  • Test and implement database Environment Changes.
  • Proactively monitor, correct and plan to prevent out-of-capacity situations.
  • Provide technical advice to application development and production support groups and assist in performance testing and operating system and database performance tuning.
  • Develop, document, and maintain physical database standards and procedures.
  • Participate in determining physical database Changes associated with ADM efforts, and implement the necessary Changes to relevant databases
  • Provide primary upgrade support for DB2 and products related to DB2.
  • Follow procedures for installing OEM software products efficiently and according to best practices and Ensono standards (for productivity/scalability).
  • Adhere to a schedule that efficiently manages resources and allows timely implementations.
  • Follow ITSM change control procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in DB2 for administration and systems programming support (CA, BMC and IBM tools for DB2 is a plus).
  • Extensive experience with the following:
  • Recent installation and customization of DB2 subsystems
  • Expert Performance tuning to include reducing MIPs consumption rates
  • Proficient in DB2 control functions
  • Troubleshooting and solving of DB2 System database issues
  • Troubleshooting and solving DB2 software related issues
  • Working knowledge of WLM environment with respect to DB2
  • Solid working knowledge of DB2 Utilities, TSO and FTP
  • Strong knowledge of SMP/E and its role in the installation process
  • Base knowledge in Unix System Services(USS) related to DB2 requirements in USS
  • Strong JCL skills
  • Knowledge in best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation
  • Configure and manage DB2 in a parallel sysplex environment (Data sharing a Plus).
  • Develop innovation, strategies, processes and  best practices in DB2 systems programming
  • Ability to work with clients as an Ensono ambassador for DB2 related matters
  • Database Administration
    • Knowledge of DB2 database organization using access methods of VSAM and OSAM
    • Full function database organization types: HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM
    • Definition and use of LOGICAL databases: HALDB (partitioned):  PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, PSINDEX, etc.
    • Knowledge of Fast Path databases (DEDBs)
    • Database Design and related utilities
    • DBD source coding and DBDGEN
    • PSB source coding and PSBGEN
    • How databases are processed using secondary indexes (PROCSEQ=)
    • Correct usage of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking
    • Understanding of path calls
    • Understanding of bi-directional logical relationships
    • Understanding and use of Data Set Groups

 

 

Other Qualifications

  • Reviewing new versions of DB2 for functionality, advising how they benefit the client
  • Vendor consultations for problems and questions
  • Working knowledge of SMS, IDCAMS, DF/DSS and other standard utilities and subsystems.
