Job Title: Research Data Management - MIS Student Placement

Administrative Unit: Research Services division, University of Ottawa Library

Job Type: One (1) temporary position – Part time (120h)

Work Schedule: Schedule is flexible; students may complete their hours from

Morisset Library or elsewhere, however, they must be available for weekly check-in meetings in Morisset Library during regular work-day hours (Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

Salary Scale Research Assistant: $45.31/hour

Position Summary:

Research Data Management is an emerging field of librarianship that engages with the active organization and maintenance of data throughout the research process, and suitable archiving of the data at the project’s completion. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in awareness-raising activities and research data management best practices instruction in data discoverability, secure storage and archiving, and data sharing and reuse. Activities include revising bilingual instructional materials (used by Librarians to deliver research data management training and services) and event planning support for research data management-themed library workshops.

Position Highlights:

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and curious student interested in research data management and data sharing who is interested in a new field of academic library science to support the Open Science and Open Access movements. The student will have the opportunity to participate in team meetings, attend workshops and series of presentations to build technical skills, and use the material produced and for other professional opportunities, including conferences.

Required Qualifications:

Currently registered graduate MIS student or related field

Bilingual (English and French)

Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively as a team member

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to describe technical concepts to a general audience

Must demonstrate resourcefulness and independent learning skills, including the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges
