ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced, certified Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to provide operational leadership and support within our Pharmacy Services Department. This position is primarily day shift (varying day shift start times) with evening and weekend components based on operational needs.
The role combines hands-on pharmacy technician responsibilities with frontline supervision, staff development, operational oversight, and a commitment to patient safety and service excellence. Working under the general direction of Pharmacy Operations leadership, the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor serves as a role model, leader, and subject matter expert for assigned pharmacy operations.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor supports the delivery of safe, efficient, timely, and accurate pharmacy services while overseeing daily operations and personnel within assigned pharmacy areas. The successful candidate will foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise daily activities of pharmacy personnel within assigned pharmacy satellites and operational areas
- Serve as a role model and subject matter expert for pharmacy staff
- Collaborate with scheduled pharmacy caregivers to ensure all operational tasks are completed each shift
- Address staffing concerns related to call-outs and coverage gaps, providing direct operational support as needed
- Participate in performance management activities, including evaluations and quarterly caregiver check-ins
- Support staff development and performance improvement through coaching, mentoring, and the positive discipline process when appropriate
- Orient, train, and complete competency checklists for new caregivers in assigned locations
Operations & Patient Safety
- Ensure pharmacy operations are maintained effectively and function efficiently
- Perform inpatient pharmacy technician duties during staffing shortages or operational needs
- Promote and maintain a strong focus on patient safety and quality outcomes
- Adhere to and enforce departmental safety procedures and practices
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, and safety concerns in a timely manner
- Demonstrate and promote a Culture of Responsibility through proactive risk identification and event investigation activities
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and Joint Commission readiness activities
- Assist with the development, review, and revision of pharmacy policies and procedures
- Recommend operational improvements to Pharmacy Operations leadership
- Support continuous professional development for self and pharmacy team members
Collaboration & Customer Service
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with key departmental stakeholders throughout ChristianaCare
- Foster effective communication, problem-solving, and service excellence
- Represent Pharmacy Services on departmental and system-wide projects, committees, and initiatives as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent education
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and customer service excellence
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Business, or a related field
- Previous hospital pharmacy experience
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience
