Director, Global Indirect Tax

Reporting to the Senior Tax Director – International Tax and Transformation, the Global Indirect Tax Lead –Director, will oversee the Indirect Tax Team globally and plan and implement a full range of tax transformation and automation services to the Nutrien business. This role will lead the indirect tax transformation initiatives by directing the transformation of existing processes with a focus on centralized longer term process sustainability and technology implementation as well as provide US and Canadian indirect tax advisory services to our business units.

Key Tasks        

                                                          

• Leader of the Global Indirect Tax Team will be responsible for the indirect tax strategic projects, centralized process sustainability, technology implementation and global relationships that support Nutrien’s business units
• Responsible for the standardization of governance, controls and methodologies applied to indirect taxes across the global organization
• Lead Nutrien’s strategy for new indirect tax legislation and tax initiatives, partnering closely across global functions
• Responsible for the transformation and automation of complex indirect tax functions and processes in the US and Canada to generate significant value and return for Nutrien with short-term and long-term impacts
  • Proactively identify and lead technology and data review for indirect tax globally, including initiatives for process improvements and automation
  • Provide strategic and tactical advice for the design, development, operation and end user support of tax systems and tools
  • Oversee the standardization of tax reporting and data analytics by utilizing existing tools and identifying areas for enhancement
  • Collaborate with internal functions to ensure all data requirements are documented and managed
• Accountable for the overall effectiveness of the  indirect tax advisory team for US and Canadian indirect taxes
• Establishes performance expectations for the Global Indirect Tax organization and accountable for results to build a best-in-class tax function.
• Provide strategic people leadership, coaching, mentoring and sponsorship to a high performing team of tax professionals including indirect global reports to leverage and develop strengths and foster talent

 

Qualifications

 

• Degree qualifications in Commerce and/or Accounting with post graduate accounting and/or and CA/CPA and a minimum of ten years of tax/indirect tax experience with a global organization or Big 4 public accounting firm with 5 years of management and leadership skills
• Experience in systems and automation tools (e.g. SAP, Oracle, BPC, Peoplesoft, Power Query, Power BI, Onesource, Taxware, EB tax)
• Strong understanding of indirect tax, including US, Canadian and other countries (ie Aus, Brazil)
• Ability to collaborate with and influence decision makers across a global matrixed organization
• Strong experience and track record of leading transformation and automation in tax organizations
• Experience operating in a complex environment, dealing across different geographies, countries, and cultures.
• Ability to clearly communicate strategy, plans and issues across the organization.
