Job Description
The Senior Financial Analyst reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the preparation and review of analysis for various business unit leadership, the internal board of directors, and regional reporting. The position is also charged with accounting, budgetary, and financial analysis activities as well as preparing complex journal entries and advanced reconciliations. The Senior Financial Analyst supports the finance function of Northwestern Medicine through special projects.
Responsibilities:
- Meet financial objectives by identifying and evaluating trends; analyzing variances; initiating any corrective actions or adjustments.
- Prepare reconciliations; analyze variances; and initiate corrective actions on transactions with a high degree of complexity in support for finance and operating departments.
- Provide support and analysis by querying appropriate data, preparing reports, making presentations of analysis, findings, and recommendations to management.
- Research and interpret changes in financial reporting policy, applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.
- Research and understand changes in the healthcare regulatory environment and the potential impact on reporting.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, adopting and implementing industry best practices, and participating in professional societies.
- Protect operations by keeping financial and patient information confidential.
- Support the finance operations of Northwestern Medicine.
- Support the organization-wide budget process by performing detailed review of budget submissions and proposals for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain key information populated in the budget system used for various budget calculations as well as perform troubleshooting activities.
- Analyze, track, and present major components of the budget including fringe benefit, insurance, depreciation, volume, capacity, payor mix, revenue deduction, and inflation assumptions.
- Perform financial analysis that compares budgets and proposals to targets. Create board materials and presentations to be used during the budget approval process. Prepare and deploy status reports to key users that provide meaningful information on projects, budgets and budget variances, statistics, and productivity.
- Provide training and education, as needed to management and staff outside of Finance. Work with others throughout the organization (including all levels of management) to answer inquiries, provide information, troubleshoot problems, and complete various financial analysis projects.
- Maintain data definitions and structure in management reporting system used throughout the organization. Reconcile input data from ERP, payroll, and other financial systems.
- Build and update reports based on the needs of business leaders.

Qualifications
Required:
- Degree in Accounting or related field.
- 3+ years in finance role.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
- Understanding of advanced accounting topics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred:
- CPA/CHFP certification.
- Experience in a healthcare organization.
- Experience with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, preferably PeopleSoft.
