About the role
The Treasurer/Collector Accounting Specialist provides financial support in the Treasurer/Collector’s Office. This position will assist with treasury functions and act as backup for payroll administration and preparation.

This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Salary is within Grade 7, of the BMEA contract, offering annual increases via a step system.
Pay range starts at $30.54/hr with a max rate of $43.64/hr. This is a full time position, 35 hours per week, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative support for the Treasurer/Collector’s Office.
- Assist with reconciling bank accounts, prepare weekly warrants, and track budget spending.
- Provide assistance to the Benefits Administrator.
- Assist customers over the telephone, in writing, and in person.
- Complete all aspects of the department’s accounts payable process including preparing vouchers and purchase orders, input invoices into the financial accounting system, and process payments.
- Serve as backup to the Payroll Administrator and provide assistance in completing in-house payroll functions.
- High school diploma with courses in bookkeeping and accounting practices. Associate’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible office experience.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping techniques.
- Strong financial skills.
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets.
- Proficiency in standard office computer applications.
- Ability to deal effectively with the general public, other departments and business representatives.
