Senior Scientific Software Engineer at ZeroNorth
You will join the Fuel Model team responsible for our advanced predictive Fuel Model as well as anomaly detection and predictive maintenance systems. You will be part of the organisation responsible for our AI and will work closely with our naval architecture team, route optimisation team as well as our AI team.
Your mandate is to architect high-performance environments for data pipelines, and ensure the efficient training of ML models using large-scale sensor data and noon reports.
In this role, you will bridge complex data science requirements with robust engineering principles powered by AI-assisted development. We are as a team curious to leverage AI to build, maintain, and release high quality software efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Software & Architecture
Development: Drive the development of state-of-the-art scientific software, ensuring the stack remains scalable and maintainable.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with data scientists and naval architects to design features and manage stakeholder expectations through clear and concise technical communication.
Best Practices: Role model best practices in linting, testing and deployment architecting for high-performance and quality in software development.
Champion AI: Lead by example in adopting AI in the Engineering Lifecycle of predictive models.
Innovation: Identify opportunities for AI-enhanced workflows across tech stack and workflows.
Technical Environment
Our ecosystem is designed for speed and modern practices.
Backend: Python and FastAPI (utilizing C++ for performance-critical tasks and Pydantic for validation).
Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes on AWS, and Datadog for monitoring.
Data Pipeline: Airflow, DBT, Airbyte, S3, and Snowflake.
ML Operations: Pytorch on GPUs and MLflow.
We maintain high velocity through GitHub Actions and utilize AI-enhanced tools like Cursor and Claude in our daily workflows. We aim to continuously expand our use of AI development tools to streamline coding, testing, and documentation, constantly pushing the boundaries of what an AI-augmented engineering team can achieve.
Your profile
Experience & Expertise
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in scientific software engineering.
Expertise: Skilled and passionate about software development intersecting scientific computing and AI (ML, GenAI, optimization).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python is essential; familiarity with C++ is highly valued as is experience with data pipelines and MLOps. We value experience with all of the technologies (or equivalent) which are part of our technical environment described above.
Mindset & Approach
"AI-Augmented" Engineering: You are experienced and passionate about advances in AI/ML and have solid experience with AI assisted software development and vibe coding.
Balance: You are a self-motivated individual who can balance the pursuit of technical perfection with the agility provided by modern AI tools.
Leadership: Leadership experience or a track record of mentoring peers in new technologies is considered a strong asset.
Working Model
This position operates on a hybrid model, inviting you to collaborate in person at our Copenhagen headquarters two or more days per week.
