Dentistry | SterilizationThe Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Lead for the Central Sterilization unit to join the patient care team in Clinic Administration to support the Dental Clinics. The College’s Sterilization Unit in Clinic Administration is an important function in the health care delivery system. The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
Leads the Central Sterilization unit: leads the 2nd shift daily operations of Central Sterilization, providing sterilization/ dispensing services for instruments/ materials used in the College of Dentistry clinics; is responsible for decontamination, maintenance, inspection, preparation, processing and the dispatch of instrumentation, supplies and service; orders / stocks sterile supplies and equipment kept in the department according to acceptable infection control standards; this position is responsible for quality control testing, monitors compliance with infection control policies and procedures and recordkeeping; assists with quarterly inventory, provides backup assistance in two dispensaries as needed. Hours will vary with the needs of the Central Sterilization area; may work evenings.
Schedule
Monday – Friday 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Compensation
$20.02 – $25.91/hour based on experience
Experience and Education Qualifications:
Required: High School diploma or GED plus 1 year of relevant experience required.
Desired: Three or more years' experience in sterile processing; excellent interpersonal skills; Associates Degree in health care or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of full time chair side experience or 6 years or more of part time chair side experience; current CPR license; current radiology license; completion of an accredited dental assistant training program; 6 months of supervisory experience with at least 1 year in a medical or dental healthcare setting; knowledge of infection control procedures; knowledge of sterilization procedures; knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA; and; knowledge of dental nomenclature, products and instruments; experience using a personal computer and Microsoft Office to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex; experience in customer service setting.
Physical Requirements:
Candidate must be able to: work nights and/or weekends as needed for college events; frequent lifting/pulling/pushing up to 50lbs; frequent bending/twisting/turning/reaching below knees and above shoulders; and involves frequent standing/sitting/walking. Lead needs to have use of both hands, as well as dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, equipment and materials. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development.
