Job Description
Seeking four students to work on an NIH-funded research project related to the development and study of small molecules to combat antibiotic resistance. Student researchers will help plan and execute experiments and analyze data as needed to accomplish the aims of the study.
Job Location/ Hours Required
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Wanek Natural Sciences. This position requires up to 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with all safety regulations as outlined by HPU, the Department of Chemistry, and the Principal Investigator
- Keep organized and accurate records of all experiments and data, according to guidelines for good lab practices
- Conduct biological assays using BSL 1 and BSL 2 bacterial pathogens, observing appropriate biosafety procedures
- Conduct biochemical experiment including but not limited to: RNA purification, RT-qPCR, gene cloning, bacterial transformation, analysis of Sanger sequencing and RNA-sequencing data, human cell culture, and chemical synthesis.
Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates should have completed at least 2 semesters of chemistry and have experience working in a laboratory environment.
