Delegating Nurse (NE) (Part-time) - St Francis of Assisi School, Baltimore MD

The delegating nurse will work closely with the school community to maintain a healthy environment. She/he will provide training to all appropriate school staff regarding issues related to students with special health needs including planning, maintaining a safe environment, and medication administration issues. In addition, they are responsible for the implementation of school health services programs and policies related to students with special needs.

Essential Functions:

• Provide first aid, medical care, and emergency care services to students, faculty and staff
• Administer medications and treatments to students as ordered by students’ physicians
• Assist in the collection and management of health forms
• Create and maintain documentation of all encounters, assessments, and interventions
• Serve as liaison between students, teachers and families regarding health concerns
• Provide evaluation of competency of Certified Medication Technicians
• Develop initial nursing evaluation and the nursing plan of care
• Available to staff to answer questions concerning medical and/or medication issues
• Perform staff training and retraining as needed/requested
• Assessing the health care needs of the school population
• Being available for adequate supervision of school health plan 
• Staff CPR/First Aid training
• Staff Certified Medication Technician training
• Support school administration in following up with families to get forms completed
• Support school with the submission of Maryland State Vaccine Reports 
• Form reviews in preparation for all class trips
• Review the medication forms and meds, making sure nothing has expired
• Identify teacher/chaperone to whom you will delegate the administration of medication
• Generate Field Trip medication administration form for paper documentation
• Support the school with following medical provider instructions to create Diabetic/Seizure Action Plan
• Providing general advice to the school regarding best practices around student health services and programs

Position Qualifications:

• Current Maryland RN license - BSN preferred
• Training/experience as Delegating Nurse in Maryland schools is preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of nursing experience
• Nursing experience in a high school setting
• Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support certification
• Ability to quickly and competently assess medical situations and escalate as needed
