About the role
JOB SUMMARY The Production Manager oversees the Chemmake/Bottling Department’s operations, ensuring that production schedules, quality standards, and deadlines are consistently met. This role involves coordinating with the Department Manager and Production Controller, managing regular and temporary staff, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies. The Production Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining high-quality standards and safety protocols throughout the production process. Duties and Responsibilities
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality of reagents produced by Chemmake Technicians, ensuring they meet required standards through lab equipment and product testing. Maintain accurate records on batch preparation sheets and update the ERP system accordingly.
- Production Monitoring: Conduct random quality checks on bottling and labeling processes to identify and address issues early. Verify the accuracy of finished goods before they leave the department.
- Equipment Management: Set up and operate mixing equipment for blending and compounding raw materials to produce liquid and powder reagents as needed.
- Waste Management: Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of waste chemicals, adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
- Cross-Departmental Coordination: Act as a liaison between Production and Sales & Marketing for inquiries related to Chemmake and reagent product development.
- Training & Development: Assist in the training of Chemmake and R&D personnel. Support new employee onboarding and ongoing development.
- Employee Management: Address production-related questions and personnel issues in collaboration with the Plastics, Bottling, and Chemmake Managers.
- Safety Practices: Implement and promote safety awareness and good manufacturing practices. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Inventory Management: Interface with the ERP system and Department Manager to maintain accurate inventory records of raw ingredients and finished goods.
- Associate’s degree in Chemistry or a related field with a focus on Chemistry
- 5 years of experience in manufacturing or a chemistry lab/Quality Control
- Exceptional organizational and cleanliness skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in PC and software applications
- Self-motivated with the ability to inspire and lead a team to achieve goals
- Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines
- Knowledgeable about fire safety and chemical hazards
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
- Experience using ERP systems for planning, purchasing, and production posting (Epicor experience a plus)
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field
- Experience with ERP systems
- Mechanical aptitude
- 2 years of experience in chemistry lab or chemical manufacturing
- 2 years of supervisory experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and carry equipment and supplies, often weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to work in a laboratory setting may involve exposure to various chemicals and reagents.
- Capacity to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, safety goggles, and respirators as necessary.
