Program Development Specialist

The Program Development Specialist will be primarily responsible for the development and delivery of public programming both on the museum floor and in our educational classrooms. This position will be responsible for assisting in the training of Educator teams on programmatic experiences, such as science labs and exhibit programming. This role is expected to spend approximately 50% of their annual time facilitating hands-on experiences and 50% of their annual time developing and iterating on public programming experiences. This non-exempt position reports to the Senior Director, Interactive Learning Programs. 

Responsibilities 

• Facilitate hands-on public and field trip programming, including but not limited to science labs, workshops, and other educational experiences. 
• Collaborate on the development, prototyping, and execution of innovative and engaging hands-on, design-based STEAM learning programs and activities for diverse audiences on our gallery floor and in our educational classrooms.  
• Collaborate with the Senior Director of Interactive Learning Programs and the Senior Manager of Facilitated Experiences to develop and implement training opportunities that will enhance the facilitation skills of the Facilitated Experiences team of Educators and volunteers.
• Provide feedback on continuous improvement of The Tech’s educational programs, including science lab programs, innovation lab programs, and other facilitated experiences.
• Provide support in The Tech’s evaluation efforts as needed.
• Participate in ongoing professional development training and staff meetings that may occur outside regular shift hours.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Requirements and skills

• Pursuing or completed BA/BS in education, science, engineering or equivalent experience desired.
• Experience developing and designing hands-on, interactive STEM programs or experiences geared towards diverse youth audiences.
• Skilled in communicating technical/scientific topics to diverse groups with varying levels of exposure to and knowledge of the subject. 
• Demonstrated adaptability in fast-paced, dynamic environments and comfort working with diverse group of visitors.
• Fluency in one or more languages common to the San Francisco Bay Area is a plus.

Working Conditions and Schedule

• This is an onsite position with the possibility of flexibility for working some days at an alternative work location. Flexibility will vary depending on the needs of the job.
• At least one weekend day shift per week is required. Other needed availability will vary based on The Tech’s operating schedule. 
• Occasionally moves objects up to 25 pounds.
