This position performs locksmithing duties, such as making keys, rekeying locks, issuing keys, and performing preventive maintenance work on locks, closures, exit devices, badging system devices, and electronic locks. The incumbent sets or resets lock cylinders to provide a key system to ensure the security of buildings or rooms, repairs or replaces springs, tumblers, and other parts, and changes lock combinations. Unlock doors when keys are lost or broken in the lock, when locks are defective, or when combinations are unknown.Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints to cross-reference room numbers with appropriate keying assignments.
- Perform maintenance carpentry tasks related to door, lock, and closure systems, including door repairs, strike adjustments, lubrication, and hinge replacement.
- Install, repair, and maintain mechanical and electronic locks on doors, cabinets, safes, and lockers.
- Rekey locks and cut keys as needed for staff, faculty, and student access.
- Respond to emergency lockouts and security breaches.
- Inspect and maintain campus-wide door hardware, panic bars, and closers.
- Responsible for cleaning and repairing tools and equipment. Must keep working space clean and organized.
- Program and troubleshoot key card and access control systems.
- Maintain digital and hard copy key filing systems indexed by building and room number for the entire university complex.
- Collaborate with campus security and facilities management for safety compliance.
- Assist with planning and implementation of campus-wide keying systems and security upgrades.
- Ensure ADA compliance related to door access and hardware.
- Maintain inventory of locks, keys, and related tools and parts.
- Provide support for campus events requiring temporary locking/unlocking of areas.
- Train staff on proper use of locking systems when necessary.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure secure access in sensitive areas (labs, dorms, server rooms, etc.).
- Operates a state motor vehicle.

Required Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Certifications/Licenses:
- Current, valid driver’s license
Work Experience:
- Two (2) years’ experience in locksmithing
- Two (2) years’ experience programming and installing electronic lock set systems
- Two (2) years’ experience with Honeywell operating systems EBI Security, Badging, and Camera systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of experience in locksmithing
- Experience with CMMS (Famis360, E-Maintenance, PropertyTrax, etc.)
- Experience with Genetec Security Desk software
- Experience in a medical university setting
