The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank to serve as the Director of Research for the accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Phoenix, AZ. This two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities, which allows the faculty member to live remotely to the School of Medicine Phoenix campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Phoenix, AZ for designated time periods each semester. The successful faculty candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, as well as develop a scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a university faculty member.

Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team-oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student-learning activities. We also are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of evidence-based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom and building a student-centered community within the online classroom. 

 

The successful candidate serving in the role of Director of Research is expected to enhance the scholarly productivity and development of the DPT faculty, teach within the DPT program, and contribute to service. This leader should demonstrate a desire to collaborate and mentor faculty in scholarship. This faculty member should have an existing independent scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate to a university faculty member. This candidate should also have familiarity of Institutional Review Board policies and procedures as well as grant application and management processes.

 

This position, like all Tufts DPT faculty positions, is non-tenured track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Candidates seeking the rank of Associate Professor or Professor must have a proven track record of scholarship, and graduate student advising and teaching at the Doctoral level. Additionally, the successful candidate will understand higher education, pedagogy and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy clinical education. The candidate should be a licensed physical therapist or eligible for licensure their state of residence.

Essential Tasks and Functions of the Director of Research:

1.          Collaborate with and mentor faculty facilitating scholarly pursuit and productivity.

2.          Identify and work, on behalf of the DPT program, with Tufts University School of Medicine, and Department Rehabilitation Sciences to assist with collaborative research, funding, and grant opportunities for Tufts DPT faculty that aligns with their scholarly agenda when applicable.

3.          Establish and coordinate the Research Committee, based on strengths and interest of involved faculty, and ensure there is appropriate guidance for all research activities to include planning, developing, conducting, and receiving Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for relevant DPT program projects.

4.          Meet with each faculty member at least annually to discuss their scholarly agenda goals and strategies to achieve.

5.          Track and report on program-level research productivity.
