The Sr. Occupational Nurse Practitioner at BASF Chemical, Geismar location is responsible for overseeing the occupational and environmental health programs at the Geismar and North Geismar sites with focus on identifying and controlling the risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards with the goal of establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.  

As a Sr. Nurse Practitioner, you create chemistry by...

 

• Conducting employee health assessments, including pre-employment and annual physicals, and reviewing medical histories to ensure fitness for duty.
• Developing and implementing workplace health and safety programs to prevent occupational illnesses and injuries.
• Participating in emergency response planning and delivering medical support during incidents such as chemical spills or releases.
• Providing clinical care, including first aid and emergency treatment, and supporting return-to-work evaluations and workers’ compensation processes.
• Collaborating with site management, EHS, HR, and Corporate Medical to align on health policies, protocols, and compliance with BASF standards.
• Educating employees on wellness topics like stress management, ergonomics, and mental health, and coordinating health promotion activities.
• Supporting the occupational health nursing team by rotating on-call duties, mentoring peers, and stepping in during absences.
• Maintaining accurate medical records, interpreting clinical test results, and ensuring confidentiality while staying current with occupational health regulations.

If you...

 

• Hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of Louisiana, and have earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• Bring 3+ years of experience as an Occupational Nurse Practitioner or in a similar occupational health role, ideally within a manufacturing or chemical industry setting as well as experience in occupational and environmental health.
• Possess strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including OSHA regulations and environmental health standards.
• Are certified in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN) or a similar credential—or are actively pursuing certification, it is a plus.
• Demonstrate proficiency in electronic medical records systems and Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Communicate effectively and provide empathetic counseling to employees on health and wellness topics.
• Stay current with occupational health regulations and are confident interpreting and applying them in a workplace setting.
• Thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to support employee health and safety.
