About the role

Job Summary
This position will oversee the entire electric substation operations, construction and electric metering departments to ensure effective management of those operations, activities and deliverables occur in a safe, cost effective and operationally efficient manner. This role will also ensure there is necessary internal resources that drive emergency response to lower customer interruptions as it relates to CAIDI, SAIFI, and SAIDI. This position drives optimal spans of control for leadership, reduce cost by implementing shared resources, tools and equipment standards across all Line groups, complete planned projects on-time and reduce project overtime cost. Directs the departments in managing all applicable electric related field operations work, resources and supports administrative activities. Ensures effective execution on all electric substation and metering related work in a safe, efficient, and compliant matter while delivering exceptional customer service. Accountable for managing operational and regulatory risks. Creates and directs the electric substation, construction, and electric metering operations strategies and optimization plans for the Power Delivery team. Ensures the use of company assets are consistent with the corporate goal of providing safe, reliable, and low cost service to its customers and identifying income opportunities for its shareholders.



Essential Functions

  • Oversees Electric Substation Operations, Construction, and Electric Metering departments and all functions and coaches the teams on work performance related to productivity, safety and quality to meet and exceed customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures that contracted electric crews during restoration efforts are of quality craftsmanship per NIPSCO engineering standards and provides guidance for internal and contracted project work
  • Directs the maintenance of electric infrastructure in a safe and reliable manner
  • Strategy development to deliver the Corporate vision and fulfill the Operating Model
  • Communication to Power Delivery Vice President on key strategic and operational matters and supports other projects as assigned.
  • Identification, implementation and use of enabling technology for managing work
  • Champions consistency and collaboration throughout Operations
  • Provides effective communication, motivation, guidance, training and knowledge to the team members
  • Manages toward aggressive financial and departmental targets
  • Develops and implements plans to ensure elevated customer satisfaction levels
  • Ensures compliance with state utility line locating requirements
  • Analyzes various systems for resource optimization
  • Budgets management and adherence
  • Makes sound decisions based on customer satisfaction, economic value, and safety of field personnel
  • Analyzes electric outage incidents to efficiently expedite customer restoration
  • Directs problem solving in the field with respect to system operational difficulties
  • Creates, develops, and directs the performance metrics for electric line operations
  • Provides strong leadership, employee development/training, and team building opportunities to maintain self-directed work teams in a lean operations environment

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or business.
  • Experience in Operations
  • 5+ years' of experience leading large organization within the electric utility industry.
  • 7+ years’ work experience in the electric utility industry
  • Comfort with leading in and navigating through ambiguous situations. Medium
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and cooperatively work with others, establishing, and maintaining good working relationships. High
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance requirements. High
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations activities, equipment, supplies and materials. High
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to grasp technical explanations of operations scenarios, draw accurate conclusions, and discuss in financial and regulatory terms. High
  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategic team alignment and execution. High
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively explore alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties. Medium
