Summary/Objective
Oversee the transport and operation of all types of heavy equipment on various construction / maintenance projects.
Essential Job Duties
- Transport and operate heavy equipment of all types and sizes, including dozers, backhoes, motor graders, excavators, scrapers, large farm tractors, bobcats, track loaders, dump trucks, road tractors, and moving equipment.
- Schedule and supervise the work of Heavy Equipment Operators.
- Procure materials and supplies by estimating quantities, obtaining bids, and approving purchases.
- Read construction drawings, survey job sites, check for hazards, and layout grade stakes.
- Preform repairs and maintenance activities on the heavy equipment fleet.
- Complete/approve timesheets, credit card logs, expense reports, FEMA disaster recovery forms and vehicle expense logs.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of experience as a heavy construction equipment operator.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver's license and CDL (Class A).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate tools and heavy construction, farming and land management equipment.
- Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, calculator, camera, scanner and printer.
- Ability to read construction drawings
- Ability to lay out projects from information shown on Department plans and specifications.
- Ability to define a problem, analyze relevant information and develop solutions and plans to solve the problem.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work varying shifts and hours, as needed.
- Ability to travel and stay overnight for multiple days.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Ability to enter data into Infrastructure and Project Management Programs.
Work Environment
- Frequently work in outdoor weather which may be hot, cold, wet or humid.
- Regularly exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.
Physical Abilities
- Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds.
- Concentrated attention is required at all times.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.
