What You’ll Do
Position Summary
The Lead Referral Coordinator will process all referral requests to outpatient centers, specialist offices, or outside services needed. Referral coordinators serve as a liaison for patient resources. The Lead Referral Coordinator will often work closely with insurance companies. The Lead Referral Coordinator must be able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the highest level of customer service possible and displays respect and concern for all patients.
- Expedites patient referrals to specialty offices.
- Maintains ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
- Ensures complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information.
- Provide and fax appropriate clinical information to specialist office.
- Schedule, problem solve, communicate, and coordinate referral appointments with outside specialists as needed.
- Updates patient information and makes changes to EMR platform.
- Will provide periodic training (onboarding, refresher, or workshops) for all new and established Referral Specialists.
- Will serve as liaison between the leadership team and referrals department.
- Monitors all referrals department staff’s productivity and assist in ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
- Runs quality audits and document best practices to relay that information to the leadership team.
- Will ensure referrals team is up to date with preferred provider list for all incoming referrals and ensures team is using the preferred list.
