Position Summary:
The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is seeking a strategic and inspirational leader to serve as a Program Director of Middle School Operations. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing engaging programs that promote academic enrichment, personal growth, leadership development, and community engagement for teens. The Program Director will work
closely with the Executive Director to ensure both programs are aligned with the organization's mission and objectives, and that they operate smoothly, efficiently, and with high standards of safety and quality. Additionally, this person will manage a team of staff and volunteers, build relationships with key stakeholders, and ensure that all activities align with state licensing requirements.
Essential Functions:
Program Leadership and Grant Management
- Plan and lead Middle School Programs curriculum in compliance with state licensing regulations and the standards of the YMCA
- Develop and implement activities and events that are age appropriate and engaging. In collaboration with the Executive Director, design, implement and oversee a comprehensive teen summer camp program that includes a variety of activities, opportunities for leadership training, and team- building.
- Ensure execution of deliverables from grant requirements and report accordingly. (if applicable)
- Create and monitor site team schedules to ensure ratio coverage in compliance with state licensing regulations and the standards of the YMCA.
Team Development and Leadership
- Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of program staff and volunteers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence among staff and program participants.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to empower staff members.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, community organizations, parents, and other key stakeholders to ensure that programs meet the needs of teen and the community.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify potential community partners and expand the reach and impact of the programs.
- Serve as an advocate for youth development and education within the Memphis & Mid-South community.
Other Duties:
- Provide leadership for the Teen Summer Experience
- All other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of teen program experience, program management, or nonprofit administration.
- Proven experience in relationship building, program management, and compliance.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong relationships with teens, staff, parents, and community partners.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging, hands-on activities that promote learning and personal growth.
- Experience with program evaluation and data-driven decision-making. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of program design and implementation
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
