KBR is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to support our Biomedical and Environmental Research Department for KBR’s Science and Space division.

The Biomedical Equipment Technician will provide technical expertise in general laboratory maintenance for the Laboratory Support Services (LSS) team at the NASA-Johnson Space Center. This role is a function of the Human Health and Performance Contract to support spaceflight operations projects as well as research studies conducted to advance future exploration missions.
This position will work closely with the LSS lead and laboratory stakeholders to ensure the maintenance, proper certification, and calibration of all laboratory equipment is met in accordance with established quality management system standards. In addition, this position will support the management of the house gas supply, maintaining inventory and distribution of gases, liquid nitrogen, and dry ice. The candidate will also support the Environmental Monitoring System by responding to off-nominal alerts after hours as needed.
Other responsibilities may include the ability to maintain a National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Certification to autonomously certify and repair biological safety cabinets, support the certification and implementation of pressure systems, conduct maintenance and troubleshooting on refrigeration systems and refrigerant evacuations in preparation of equipment disposal, training, and serving as a back up to the department lead for certain tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct general repair on laboratory equipment as needed or coordinate with external vendors for specialized equipment repairs.
• Monitor the environmental and gas pressure telemetry systems and respond to off-nominal alerts as needed.
• Maintain inventory and coordinate procurement and distribution of gases, liquid nitrogen, and dry ice.
• Provide support for the repair and certification of incubators and cold storage units.
• Provide back-up support of administration of environmental monitoring system.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Ability to work within a dynamic team environment.
• Excellent skills in both written and verbal communication.

OPTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Certification.
• Complete and document certification and repairs of all biological safety cabinets, clean benches, and fume hoods.
• Participation in certification and implementation of pressure systems.
• Support the maintenance and repair of refrigerators, freezers, and ultra-low units.
• Perform refrigerant evacuations in preparation for equipment disposal.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

MUST BE ACTIVE DUTY ELIGIBLE FOR THE SKILLBRIDGE PROGRAM TO APPLY


• Candidates must meet the requirements listed below to be considered for this position; please note required items on your resume.
• This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
• Education: bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience in equivalent field OR associate degree with 5 to 8 years’ experience in equivalent field.
• Experience:
o Must have experience with general equipment repair.
o Must have general knowledge of electrical systems.
o Familiarization working with specialized equipment.
o Proven ability to perform technical work to high standards.
o Willingness to learn new skills.
o Ability to capture, communicate, and implement the needs and requirements of customers for their projects.
o Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence of the customer and contract personnel.
o Must be able to work independently, be highly motivated, and able to work with multiple disciplines.
