JOB TITLE: Excavation Field Foreman
OBJECTIVE: An experienced, deadline driven field working foreman who provides support to the Excavation Manager, in addition to leading a crew in guidance and assistance to the other excavation and heavy equipment operators.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide leadership, establish, and maintain effective and productive working relationships of the excavation crew and promote positive morale.
- Direct the workloads of the excavation crew to include training, mentoring, and follow-up.
- Communicate regular excavation staff progress to the Excavation Manager.
- Adhere to a strict project schedule working with the Excavation Manager.
- Maintain and enforce clean project sites and work areas as needed.
- Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company’s operating safety policies and procedures.
- Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
- Loading and offloading rocks, debris, and other materials from heavy equipment.
- Dig and Backfill foundations/footings and trenches.
- Assist with snow removal when required.
- Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner.
- Advise the Excavation Manager of necessary equipment upgrades, repairs, and replacements.
- Have an excellent understanding of site plans, specifications, earthmoving, and grading.
- Have a full understanding of all building codes and resources to ensure all codes are met.
- Maintain and manage quality of work completed.
- Enforce and hold OSHA safety policies and meetings (e.g., weekly toolbox talks).
- Enforce jobsite cleanliness.
- Maintain schedule equipment service and maintenance logs.
- Have an excellent understating of site plans, specifications, earthmoving and grading.
- Complete the required paperwork necessary to keep accurate records of excavation staff (mileage, hotel accommodations, inventory, approving invoices as needed, daily logs, safety log, etc.).
- Participate in Construction Department meetings.
- Provide timely and cordial interaction with supportive work groups such as Accounting, HR, etc.
- Conflict management.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent is required
- Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. CDL preferred
- Experience with operating heavy equipment i.e., excavator, front end loader, backhoe, dozer, skid steer, forklift, etc. in a safe and productive manner
- Must have 3+ years of experience in a construction leadership role
- OSHA knowledge/excavation competent person training
- Efficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- Possess the ability to read and understand blueprints
- Knowledge of all aspects of the construction process
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
- Must be flexible and possess the ability to change priorities and direction based on the need of a project
- Ability to be self-sufficient and self-directed
PREFERRED:
- Advanced degree in Construction Management
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Commercial experience with sewer/water and concrete
- GPS/Trimble experience a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical requirements of the position include being able to tolerate working outdoors year-round in all elements/weather, lifting, transporting, adjusting heavy objects and equipment 75-100 lbs., bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, reaching; working in open trenches.
