Your Opportunity:
The Datacenter Engineer is responsible for the implementation and ongoing 7x24 support of the computer infrastructure services and to ensure high availability, redundancy, recoverability, and capacity. This includes systems hardware as well as management software and tooling. This position requires a multi-team, cross-functional approach to meeting business needs. The Datacenter Engineer works closely with the other groups within the business - networking, virtualization, storage, security and architecture and is expected to have, maintain, and develop knowledge in multiple technical areas to collaborate and provide support to the engineering and application development groups.
This position is a key contributor and enabler to the business information systems. Opportunities include working on on-premises cloud platforms and emerging technologies in coordination with executive and architectural teams.
What You’ll Do (Primary Responsibilities):
• Provide day to day support for the data center infrastructure, including on-call
• Ensure that all supported environments are monitored to provide alerts when there are problems (including performance); when problems arrive, root cause analysis is completed
• Ensure that all supported environments are fully documented, including procedures for their use and management; examples of documentation are project plans, business continuance, installation procedures, troubleshooting tips, system diagrams and topology
• Participate in the design, planning, and implementation of new projects/technologies and ensuring that the solutions are highly available and performant
• Work with the architecture group to develop and document standards and procedures
• Work with the operations/devops and application development groups to ensure that they have the resources required to support the application environments
• Work with vendors to resolve issues and manage new technologies and proposals
• Communicates with and seeks solutions from IT vendors/external relationships which the business partners with
• Participate in the evaluation, deployment, and management of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and business initiatives
Your Team:
The team is comprised of three engineers which support Datacenter operations. The team has a Product Owner and Director as operational and functional leaders.
About You:
· Availability to be on-premises as needed, reasonable travel distance geographically with reliable transportation
· Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science or Information Technology preferred) or 2 Years equivalent experience
· Position is responsible for active response, supporting 7x24 on-call on a rotating basis
· Cisco UCS: familiarity with management and use of the platform
· Physical datacenter: familiarity with general racking/stacking concepts and practices
· Cable management/systems integration: Basic understanding of cabling requirements, termination/routing, networking, storage, and compute hardware
· General understanding of security controls and topics
· General understanding of technical documentation and document management systems
· General understanding of HA environment design and implementation
· Demonstrated understanding of hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O. paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber channel, Ethernet, firmware
· Management and configuration of systems on TCP/IP networks with an understanding of network concepts, protocols, and tools/applications
· General understanding of Agile/SAFe framework and correlated tools (Rally/Jira) and ceremony participation
