Overview
As a Senior Systems Engineer you will be responsible for resolving escalated service issues, coaching other engineers to resolutions, engineering and implementing complex projects, and for maintaining and overseeing the technology of their assigned areas. This includes VMWare, Windows, and Linux environments.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior F5 Engineer with a proven track record in enterprise-scale application delivery, load balancing, and secure traffic management. This role requires deep expertise in F5 BIG-IP LTM, iRules scripting, TLS/SSL configurations, DNS infrastructure, certificate lifecycle management, and cross-platform systems knowledge. The ideal candidate will also possess work experience with F5 APM to support future authentication initiatives.
A successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving requirements, devise innovative solutions in dynamic environments, work in high-pressure environments, collaborate effectively with diverse teams, and maintain focus on delivering secure and optimized application traffic solutions. We are looking for an individual with a Level III Engineer mindset—someone who takes ownership, operates at a strategic level, and delivers robust, scalable solutions in complex technical ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Works with project team to plan and engineer the organization's systems infrastructure utilizing extensive experience. Ensure that the various components of the enterprise infrastructure architecture are consistent and coherent, designed at an appropriate level of detail, and that changes are controlled so as to maintain consistency. Serve as a subject matter expert for infrastructure architectural frameworks, methods and tools.
- Perform a variety of complicated tasks such as implementation or upgrade of designed hardware and software solutions. Works both independently and coordinates the activities of System Administrators, DBA's and development teams.
- Troubleshoot performance and technical issues with systems infrastructure. Assist development team with troubleshooting application and systems performance issues. Advise on performance and monitoring tools.
- Design, implement, and maintain F5 BIG-IP systems (LTM, APM) across diverse, enterprise environments.
- Develop and maintain advanced iRules and traffic policies to support custom application logic, security enforcement, and traffic optimization.
- Configure and support F5 APM for application access control, including authentication policy design and integration with identity providers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to SSL/TLS handshakes, load balancing behavior, session persistence, and backend server interactions.
- Perform packet capture analysis (tcpdump, Wireshark) to diagnose network performance, latency, or connectivity issues at a deep protocol level.
- Manage all aspects of certificate lifecycle, including issuance, renewal, deployment, and chain validation across F5 systems.
- Optimize TLS configurations in alignment with current best practices (TLS 1.2/1.3, strong cipher suites, forward secrecy).
- Design and maintain DNS architectures, including split-horizon DNS, GSLB, TTL tuning, and resolution flow optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system and application owners, to ensure F5 infrastructure aligns with application, security, and business requirements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and act as a subject matter expert in F5 technologies.
- Support automation initiatives using scripting tools such as Python, Ansible, or shell scripting for consistency and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, standards, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide support during critical incidents or planned maintenance windows
