Job Summary

The Device team is responsible for device development, customization, certification, SKU management, and launch of all Android and iOS devices in Xfinity Mobile portfolio. The team interfaces with all OEMs (Samsung, Google, Motorola and Apple), internal business teams and 3rd party app dev teams to ensure device readiness to launch devices on time to align with business team’s roadmap launch plans.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer, Device Development with hands-on experience with Android and iOS-based devices (Phones, Tablets, Wearables). The candidate should have a high-level understanding of wireless telecom ecosystem and be passionate about working with new and emerging products and technologies.

Job Description

This team is located in our Philadelphia HQ and collaborates in-person on a hybrid basis. The role is not open to remote or virtual hiring.

For this Senior Engineer (Eng4) role, we are looking for someone who has a technical background and has gained experience across product management and product development, including defining device specs, working with internal and external teams (OEMs, etc.), writing test plans/validating requirements, and vendor management.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for defining and managing the requirements for a wide range of wireless devices.
  • Work closely with engineering, product management, and vendors to ensure that our devices meet the needs of our customers and align with our overall business strategy.
  • Collaborate with the stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into device requirements.
  • Evaluate the emerging technologies to identify the challenges and opportunities utilizing the good and deep understanding of current wireless/cellular technologies.
  • Keep track of the industry trends and advancements in wireless technology to ensure that our device requirements are aligned with the latest standards and best practices.
  • Define and execute the test plans to validate the device functionality and performance against the requirements.
  • Track and manage the requirements and test plans throughout the device life cycle and work closely with the vendors to ensure that they understand and meet our requirements.
  • Simplify complex technical concepts to effectively communicate with both technical & non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in managing requirements, product development, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering/computer science or related field, Master degree preferred
  • Strong understanding of wireless including but not limited to CDMA,LTE, 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth.
  • Good understanding of 3GPP, PTCRB, GCF, WiFi wireless standard
  • Knowledge of key logging tools (QXDM, Wireshark and others)

Preferred:

  • Good understanding of key networking and IP communication concepts (TCP/UDP, IP, DHCP, DNS etc.)
  • Skills to analyze network and device logs (QXDM, IP packet captures etc.) to validate and create test cases for requirements.
  • Familiarity with test equipment (Emulators, Shield chambers etc.) and mobile automation test solutions
  • Familiar with SQL and scripting languages
  • Experience with JIRA/Confluence to manage the processes and requirements.
  • Understanding of network and device provisioning and management system
