About the role

Support mission-critical operations as a Technical Writer, Journeyman in Colorado Springs, CO. In this role, you’ll ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across key documents supporting the 1st Test and Evaluation Squadron, directly enhancing communication effectiveness for operational test planning and reporting.

Pay: $97,000 – $105,000

Essential Duties

Document Review & Quality Assurance

  • Review test plans, reports, and briefings for grammar, formatting, and style consistency.
  • Apply Department of Defense (DoD) and higher headquarters writing standards across all materials.
  • Ensure clarity, cohesion, and compliance with established communication guidelines.

Technical Communication Support

  • Assist government personnel in updating templates, manuals, and presentation materials.
  • Support test teams by interpreting documentation standards to improve coordination and turnaround.
  • Contribute editing suggestions during program review sessions and stakeholder meetings.

Collaboration & Continuity

  • Act as a continuity resource for standardized document practices across the squadron.
  • Streamline communication outputs across the test and evaluation enterprise.
  • Provide clear, actionable editorial feedback while preserving technical content and intent.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in technical writing or document quality review.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong grasp of grammar, syntax, and formatting.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow style guides and operate independently or in team environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting DoD or U.S. Air Force communication efforts.
  • Familiarity with Air Force writing standards, formats, and content review processes.
  • Experience editing formal documentation, manuals, and high-level briefing materials.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field is preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience may be combined for total years of experience. 

Required Clearance

  • Top Secret / SCI

Travel

  • Minimal travel required
