JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Instructional Designer supports faculty in designing, developing, and enhancing didactic courses, exam questions, clinical rubrics, and competencies. This position ensures alignment with accreditation standards and promotes innovative teaching practices through educational technologies and curriculum development tailored to dental education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with faculty to design and develop engaging didactic courses aligned with learning objectives and accreditation standards.
Implements and manages Learning Management System platforms (e.g., Canvas) for course delivery.
Develops clinical rubrics and competencies for practical assessments. - Review and update assessment tools based on feedback and performance data.
Creates and refines exam questions to ensure validity, reliability, and alignment with course goals.
Adapts course content for diverse learning modalities (online, hybrid, in-person).
Provides training sessions on instructional design principles and technology use; offers one-on-one consultations to faculty for course improvement.
Troubleshoots and supports faculty with technology-related issues.
Conducts evaluations of course materials and assessments for continuous improvement.
Ensures instructional materials meet compliance and quality standards.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Instructional Design or a similar field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in educational technologies and/or curriculum development; OR Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of experience in educational technologies and/or curriculum development. (Experience in health sciences or dental education environment preferred. Prior experience developing curriculum and assessments in higher education preferred. Familiarity with instructional design for clinical or competency-based education is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of instructional design principles and best practices for curriculum development.
Knowledge of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and educational technology tools.
Skill in creating engaging and interactive course content for diverse learning modalities.
Skill in developing valid and reliable assessments, including exam questions and clinical rubrics.
Ability to analyze course effectiveness and implement improvements based on data and feedback.
Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and staff across multiple departments.
Ability to communicate complex instructional concepts clearly and concisely.
