OVERVIEW:

The Regional Customer Development Director is the senior field leader responsible for all regional execution of LAL adoption and same-store growth strategies. This role directly leads CDMs, CTSs, and SCTSs, and is accountable for aligning team performance to divisional KPIs, onboarding execution, clinical workflow optimization, and account-level outcomes. The Director ensures coordination across all customer-facing functions, integrates strategic initiatives and new product introductions to existing customers, and maintains regional accountability for data-driven growth plans.

This role includes real-time division analytics review, 30/60/90-day process implementation as measured by divisional LAL growth. This position will have oversight of regional performance and be responsible for divisions’ performance by ensuring processes are consistent and executed through their organization, consistently and with time as a measure.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a regional team of CDMs, CTSs, and SCTSs to execute all aspects of LAL adoption, clinical integration, and account development.
  • Own regional performance for real-time LAL growth, same-store sales expansion, and surgeon onboarding.
  • Develop and own processes for accelerating LAL adoption, including the execution of strategic initiatives and ensuring their integration among existing surgeons and ODs across the region.
  • Review divisional analytics, CRM reports, and site-level performance data to identify trends, guide planning, and course-correct as needed.
  • Ensure consistent deployment of 30/60/90-day account plans, business reviews, and OD referral development strategies.
  • Oversee resolution of clinical workflow barriers and practice efficiency improvements via cross-functional coaching.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Sales Ops, and Training to align field messaging and track implementation of programs.
  • Manage regional team staffing, development, and performance to meet divisional objectives.
  • Regional oversight and direct correspondence with regional Key Opinion Leaders and continued corporate account development.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High-level clinical ophthalmic knowledge with demonstrated experience in practice workflows, patient flow optimization, and the ability to guide and resolve workflow issues in clinic settings to accelerate LAL adoption.
  • Proven ability to interpret and act on clinical and commercial performance data.
  • Demonstrated ability to co-lead strategic customer planning and execute business plans.
  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic clinic and ASC operations, with emphasis on premium technology positioning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results against LAL growth objectives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position directly manages a cross-functional regional team composed of Customer Development Managers, Clinical Affairs Training Specialists (CTSs), and Senior CTSs (SCTSs).
  • The Director is responsible for coaching, developing, and performance-managing team members to ensure alignment with regional LAL adoption goals and same-store sales performance.
  • This role also serves as the escalation point for regional clinical and commercial execution issues and ensures team integration with marketing, operations, and sales leadership.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the ophthalmic, medical device, or healthcare consulting industry, with a preference for experience in premium IOLs, refractive cataract workflows, or clinic/ASC optimization.
  • Demonstrated success in customer onboarding, business planning, or strategic account development roles strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools, patient flow design, and co-management network development considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience with Managing teams in a multidisciplined environment.
