About the role

Fortuna is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee complex federal construction projects, with a strong focus on compliance, stakeholder coordination, and on-time delivery. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep federal project experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven ability to manage integrated Design-Build and EPC teams across the full project lifecycle.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-Time | 40 hours per week

Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience and federal project background

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead and manage integrated Design-Build (DB) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams from project inception through completion, including participation during pursuit phases when requested

  • Serve as the primary point of coordination between federal agencies, internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders

  • Develop, manage, and control project budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and cost containment throughout the project lifecycle

  • Ensure strict adherence to federal regulations, compliance standards, and security requirements, proactively identifying and mitigating project risks

  • Create, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules, tracking milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion

  • Supervise, mentor, and guide project teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance

  • Prepare and present clear, comprehensive project status reports to ensure transparency and alignment with all stakeholders

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience managing federal construction or infrastructure projects

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)

  • PMP certification preferred; additional certifications such as PgMP, ITIL, or Six Sigma are a plus

  • In-depth knowledge of federal regulations, compliance standards, and procurement processes (e.g., FAR, DFARS)

  • Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain or maintain a security clearance as required by the project

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing construction contracts for federal agencies such as DoE, DoD, DHS, GSA, or similar entities

  • Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies and tools

  • Demonstrated success managing both small- and large-scale state or federal programs

PREFERRED LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • PMP

  • OSHA 30 Safety

  • Field trade or hands-on construction experience
