About the role

Empire Disposal, a Waste Connections Company, is hiring a Preventative Maintenance Technician to support our fleet operations in Colfax, Washington.

This is an intermediate-level opportunity designed to grow into a Diesel Mechanic role. If you're mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and looking for a long-term career path, we want to hear from you!

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday | 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Overtime: 1–3 hours/week on average

 Compensation & Perks:

  • Total Starting Pay: $25.00 – $30.75/hour

  • Tool Allowance: $350/month

  • Annual Boot Allowance: $400

  • Company paid and provided CDL training

  • Uniforms Provided

  • Full Benefits Package (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), etc.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on garbage trucks, trailers, and support equipment

  • Use fleet maintenance software to manage service records

  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant shop

  • Collaborate with drivers to identify and resolve vehicle issues

  • Complete repairs based on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance in a professional environment

  • Background in commercial vehicle or diesel engine maintenance is highly desirable

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license

  • Required to have a personal set of basic tools and a toolbox

  • Comfortable using computers and diagnostic software for troubleshooting and maintenance

  • Brings a strong work ethic, a positive mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow in the role

This position is classified as safety-sensitive, which means it involves duties where impaired performance could pose a significant risk to the safety of the employee or others.

As a result, candidates must successfully pass the following prior to employment:

  • Background Check

  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Review

  • Pre-employment Drug Screen
