About the role

Washington Trust is seeking an experienced senior accounting professional to be responsible for supporting corporate accounting and business line operations. This role will serve to accelerate transformation, ensuring the successful implementation of corporate and process improvement initiatives, while maintaining financial accounting accuracy and strengthening our controls. The talented and hands-on professional selected for this role will play an integral role working with corporate accounting team members, as well as business line and technology partners, to facilitate change and modernization.

This position supports a flexible hybrid remote/on-site schedule.

Principal Responsibilities:
• Serve as an accounting subject matter expert to ensure operational design of business processes comply with applicable accounting principles and corporate accounting policies.
• Develop / maintain a strong understanding of key business processes, internal systems, and bank accounting operations, and their downstream impact to general ledger.
• Create / maintain / utilize process maps documenting key business processes with a corporate accounting perspective.
• Collaborate with project team members to define business requirements for the design, implementation and enhancement of business processes and related systems.
• Partner with project team members to plan, develop and execute test cases and validate results.
• Develop strong relationships with team members and business partners and maintain effective communication.
• Support ongoing maintenance of systems and related accounting processes, ensuring reliability.
• Drive automation and process improvement to create efficiencies and strengthen operational controls.
• Maintain applicable procedures, process maps and SOX documentation for key functions in corporate accounting operations.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA a plus
• 5+ years of accounting experience within the banking industry
• Strong understanding of the accounting principles and policies that apply to bank operations
• Proven ability to analyze and understand data flow between bank financial systems and general ledger
• Detail oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, communication and leadership skills
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple efforts
• Ability to work with advanced spreadsheets, accounting systems, and other general technology such as flowcharting tools and report writers
• Knowledge of Fiserv DNA loan and deposit accounting system preferred
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with stakeholders
