GIFTED TEACHER
 
TITLE:  Classroom Teacher (Gifted)
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
Valid Mississippi Teaching Certificate with a Gifted Endorsement
Master's degree preferred
Minimum of five years teaching experience required
Record of positive classroom experience
Knowledge of Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards
Ability to conduct professional development for teachers and administrators
Ability to disaggregate, interpret and analyze assessment data
Success working collaboratively with colleagues
Success in developing and implementing intervention programs
Communicate effectively with administrators, principals, teachers, and parents both
orally and in writing
Considerable knowledge of the school board policies and procedures, and standards
Regarding K-12 education
Kind and amount of prior job experience as required by the Board
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the State Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
 
 
REPORTS TO:           Superintendent of Education, Principal, Assistant Principal and other designated supervisor
 
JOB GOALS:             To provide students with academic skills necessary to function in daily living, for achieving success on state and national achievement tests, and to serve as a foundation for learning at the next grade level.

School Context and Organization 

Mission and Goal
  1. Works with the Principal and other administration to articulate and promote the school system vision of learning and teaching.
  2. Sets and accomplishes goals and objectives consistent with the school system vision, mission, and goal.
  3. Uses student data to identify instructional needs and displays it in the classroom or other designated areas.
  4. Organizes daily, monthly, and yearly plans to facilitate learning and teaching in the schools.
  5. Communicates high expectations to students and parents/guardians for learning.
  6. Follows established procedures in the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards and other applicable federal and state regulations.
  7. Follows district policies applicable to the operation as established by the Board of Education.
  8. Performs any other tasks as required by the Superintendent of Education or immediate supervisor.
  9. Reviews, signs, and follows job description.
  10. Submits daily, weekly, and other reports to the Principal or designee on progress made in meeting district and school improvement goals (Strategic Plan, Schoolwide Plan, etc.).
  11. Dresses in an appropriate and professional manner.
  12. Arrives on time and remains until the designated time to leave for all assignments
  13. Complies with school policies, State Department of Education regulations, School Board policies, and supports the school system.
  14. Attends all meetings, workshops, and in-service training programs required by the school or district.
  15. Demonstrates professional behavior at all times with the community, administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  16. Seeks professional development activities to address personal professional growth.
 Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide support to teachers in their classroom through coaching, modeling and
    mentoring .
  • Model effective instructional practices, assessment techniques and directed teaching methods.
  • Prepare and/or provide materials to support effective instruction for students.
  • Design and disseminate instructional strategies that enhance instruction. Provide Tier   
    III interventions as needed.
  • Coordinate and provide on-going staff development opportunities at the district and
    school levels such as assigning relative professional development, training facilitators
    for PLCs, etc.
