Summary
Job Title: Construction & Maintenance Project Lead -SW Region
Location: Olympia, WA
Closing date: August 13th, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. PST
Position works four (4) days a week, 10 hours per day. Core working hours are typically 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday. This position requires regular travel including some overnight between parks and statewide for meetings, training, and other field work.
The Construction & Maintenance Lead, plans, coordinates, and organizes construction and maintenance projects; leads two or more journey level trades employees; uses knowledge, experience, and training in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, masonry, mechanics, and project planning to complete preventative and deferred maintenance projects.
The Southwest Region Crew operates out of Olympia, WA and covers a wide geographical area from Beacon Rock State Park on the Columbia River to Sequim Bay State Park on the Olympic Peninsula. We build and maintain a wide range of projects and have team members with many different skills and backgrounds.We are looking for a team-oriented person who can work well with others as well as work independently. Examples of duties
Under the supervision of the Southwest Region C&M Supervisor, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and performing new construction, renovation, remodel, repair, inspection, and maintenance of State Parks buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles for the Southwest Region. This position may also lead up to two (2) C&M Leads, four (4) C&M Project Specialists, and other staff in the maintenance and construction of planned preventative and deferred maintenance projects around the Southwest Region.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as a lead and directs work of two or more journey level trade employees and work crews assigned to construction and maintenance projects.
- Coordinate projects, leads, directs, and trains work crews and Park staff in construction and maintenance projects.
- Responsible for completing preventative maintenance and deferred maintenance projects requiring lead and journey level skills.
- Perform journey level work in carpentry, masonry, roofing, plumbing, electrical, welding, and equipment operations.
- Leads and directs planning of preventative and deferred maintenance projects including estimating needs for assigned projects including materials, equipment, and workforce.
- Inspects work to ensure quality and compliance.
- Responsible for planning, proposing (including permitting and budgeting) and providing written documents.
- Recommends maintenance work and consults with supervisor.
- Responsible for emergency water and wastewater system repairs and emergency repairs of other specialized systems or areas such as swamps, tidal areas, or historic areas.
- Respond to and repair area park maintenance related emergencies and urgencies.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules, precautions, and equipment protocols.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Option one:
- Two (2) years as a Construction & Maintenance Project Specialist.
- AND
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
- Class A CDL with tanker endorsement must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
- First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
- Six (6) years* of advanced level experience in two or more of the construction or building trades to include: building maintenance, repair, remodeling, construction duties, and mechanical/machinery.
- AND
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
- Class A CDL with tanker endorsement must be obtained within 12
