What You’ll Do
SSI’s Advanced Materials Lab (AML) in Cambridge, MA a highly-qualified long-term supplemental Staff/Sr-Staff Research Engineer who is interested in automated high-throughput materials discovery for next-gen batteries and semiconductors. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in materials science with a particular emphasis on the inorganic material synthesis for battery materials including solid-state electrolytes and cathodes.
The Advanced Materials Lab (AML) in Cambridge, MA is part of Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. headquartered in San Jose, CA. AML is engaged in materials design and discovery for a broad range of next-generation technologies in batteries and semiconductors. The work is conducted internally, with academic collaborators, and with industrial partners. As a part of Samsung’s advanced research effort, AML works closely with counterparts at Samsung laboratories in Korea. We are looking for strong candidates with demonstrated excellence in their fields.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our Cambridge, MA office 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

- Ph.D in Materials Science, Chemistry or related field.
- Expertise on inorganic solid-state materials synthesis (required).
- Research experience in developing solid-state electrolytes and/or cathodes for Li-ion batteries (desired).
- Experience with robotics and python programing (desired).
- Experience with theoretical/computational materials science through jointly project with collaborators (desired).
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.
What You Bring
- Bachelors with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in Materials Science, Chemistry or related field preferred.
- Analyze current status of research in advanced materials to identify influential factors.
- Design and perform experiments and analysis that advance the state of the art in field of expertise.
- Collaborate with other computational and experimental researchers in an interdisciplinary group.
- Contribute to Samsung AML’s mission of next-generation materials development.
- Disseminate findings in top tier publications and conferences.
- Collaborate closely with our research partners in academia in United State and our research headquarters in South Korea.
